Effects of Platostoma palustre ethanolic extracts and commercial herbal tea on the cell viability of colorectal cancer cells2022 •
Platostoma palustre jelly is a traditional food. Platostoma palustre has been used as folk medicine and is effective against heat-shock, hypertension and diabetes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effects of ethanolic extracts and commercial herbal tea of Platostoma palustre in inhibiting colorectal cancer cell viability. The ethanolic extracts of Platostoma palustre by using 90% ethanol for extraction. In this study, 2-fold serial dilution of 100 mg/mL Platostoma palustre extracts were applied. On other hand, the same dilution fold was also performed for 100% commercial herbal tea with Platostoma palustre. Additionally, CT-26 and HT-29 colorectal cancer cell lines were also used in this study. After co-culturing for 24 hours, the cell viability of CT-26 and HT-29 colorectal cancer cell lines were performed by using 3-(4, 5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. According to these data, the 1.56-100 mg/mL Platostoma palustre extracts...

Impact of housing instability on child behavior at age 72018 •
Housing instability is a thought to be a major influence on children's healthy growth and development. However, little is known about the factors that influence housing instability, limiting the identification of effective interventions. The goals of this study were to 1) explore factors, including material hardship, satisfaction with living conditions and housing disrepair, that predict housing instability (total number of moves that a child experienced in the first seven years); and 2) examine the relationship between housing instability and child behavior at age 7, measured by the Child Behavior Checklist. We analyzed these associations among children enrolled in the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health (CCCEH) Mothers and Newborns study. In our analysis, we found that housing disrepair predicted residential change after 3 years of age, but not before. Persistent material hardship over the seven-year time period from pregnancy through age 7 was associated w...

Diversity of Spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) Recorded in Khasi Mandarin Ecosystem of Northeastern India2022 •
Background: Spiders are one of the most abundant predatory groups found in the Citrus orchards. They feed on insects as well as other arthropod pests. Keeping in view of their important role in the natural biological control, the current study was carried out to study the spider fauna of the Khasi Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) ecosystem present in the Northeastern parts of India. Methods: The field surveys were carried out during 2016-21 in the seven Northeastern states, namely, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The different localities were selected based on the pre dominance of Khasi Mandarin cultivation and the different geographical and climatic conditions. Result: During the course of the survey, spiders belonging to 19 species, 16 genus and 8 different families were recorded from the study areas. The predominant families were Salticidae (36.84%) and Araneidae (26.31%) along with the reported presence of Oxyopidae (10.52%), Hersiliidae (5.2%), Het...
